Your Thirty-ninth Assignment: The Sith Problem

I hate this place, Cypher.

Why's that Kaliyo?

Too crowded.  So much desperation in the air that it sticks to me like oil.  I hate it.

I know.  The Sith are leading us down a road to ruin.  Why can't anyone see that?

The Sith.  They lead this mighty Empire.  They wield the Force and immeasurable power on Dromund Kaas and other locales across the galaxy.  They are the finely-honed weapon pointed directly at the heart of the Republic.  They're on our side.

Right?

(Warning!  The post contains spoilers!  Enter at your own risk!)
(This is an opinion post only!  I have no facts to back this up besides normally recognized Star Wars canon and my experiences in-game.  Feel free to dissect and discuss in the comments!)

The Sith use the dark side of the Force, the energy field that surrounds us and binds the galaxy together.  The Force allows for truly amazing things to happen; unimaginable leaps, blasts of power, lightning, the ability to choke the life out of a victim.  While the wellspring of the Force's power is not infinite, when compared to mere mortals it certainly seems to be the case.  The dark side of the Force requires constant feeding; it is a corrosive source of power that eventually destroys all who use it.  However, despite the cost, it is seductive; it is easy to tap, easy to use, and grants almost immediate rewards.  The Jedi know the danger of using the dark side.  So do the Sith, yet they eagerly embrace the dark with devotion bordering on zealotry.

The ruling class of the Empire is comprised entirely of Sith Lords and Darths.  Even someone as powerful as Keeper, or even the Minister of Intelligence, are required to follow the Sith's orders to the letter.  Refusal or failure is usually treated with execution.  No one in the Empire is immune from the Sith, even the Sith themselves.  They endlessly plot and scheme to murder each other for the sole purpose of acquiring more power.  As the fortunes of each Darth rise, another Darth wanes and is eliminated to consolidate power and dispose of a rival.  This type of instability keeps the Darths fighting amongst themselves rather than focusing their efforts against the Republic, much to the relief of the beleaguered Jedi and their allies.  The Jedi Council should thank their lucky stars that the Empire's wrath is usually directed inward.

All of this leads to a very serious problem facing the Empire; the Sith are searching for power at the cost of everyone else.  Darth Jadus is a prime example.  He was willing sacrifice millions of Imperial citizens just so that he could consolidate his powerbase and rule through the application of fear.  He would rather serve his own needs at the cost of the Empire than see it become strong.  His plan, in essence, was to create a new regime of fear and then use that as a battery on which to draw the Force.  How, I ask you, would a scared populace be an effective weapon against the Republic?  How would a demoralized and fearful military be able to protect us from the Jedi?  Jadus' plan was madness.

This constant hungering for power will prove our downfall.  As long as Sith rule the Empire, then there is no one who is safe, no one who is above the fray.  In short, the problem with the Sith Empire is that it's full of Sith.

So how do we remedy this?

We can't, really.  We can't as long as the Emperor rules from his throne, throwing his Darths at each other in petty power struggles.  We can't succeed as an Empire because the Emperor will not allow us.  We cannot win this war with current leadership.  It's time for a change.

A SITH WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

Come to Ilum and see for yourself what we can do without the meddling of the Emperor.  For the Empire, for victory!
