Tatooine looks rather barren, sir.
It did, Ensign Temple. Not anymore.
Sir, why are we here?
The Empire is in need. Get ready to roll.
Lock and load, agents! Today we're revisiting an old topic ... the dead world. Did patch 1.2 change that? You'll find out after the break. (SPOILER: OMG IT TOTALLY DID)
So, if you read the blog post I linked earlier, you'll see my excellent article (totally excellent, by the by) on how the world feels dead, cold, and impersonal. Patch 1.2 took a long step towards making the world(s) of TOR seem much more vibrant, and all it took was a simple world event: THE RAKGHOUL PLAGUE OF DOOOOOOOOOM.
Ok, so maybe it wasn't all that doom-y, but it was fun. It ended today at 2am central and for a solid two weeks it was a really good time. Fun was had by all (most) and loot was gained by most (some). But the real important thing that it did was to breathe some life into Tatooine ... a world that, according to my totally awesome previous post that I linked earlier by the way you should totally read it and stuff, suffered from 'snap-shot-itis.' Snapshotitis is a new medical term that applies to game worlds when they exist only at the behest and whim of the player. Long story somewhat short, the world of Tatooine only really existed for my agent for the short time he was actually there. After my agent left, there wasn't really any reason to believe that Tatooine carried on like normal; for my character, Tatooine simply ended. Kaput. No more.
Until the plague. Suddenly, on the fleet warnings were blaring out! There was a goddamned newscast about it! "Don't go to Tatooine, for the love of all that's holy!" they warned! Now THIS was exciting. On my server (US- Shien RP East) we had more folks on Tatooine than the fleet sometimes! But, in reality, what this did for me (YMMV) is it showed that the TORniverse (totally coined that, you can't steal it) doesn't exist in a bubble. Stuff happens on planets even when you're not there. This is a big deal for me.
Now, if we could just get the game to have day-night cycles ...
Oh, and Heavy Fabricator? You know, the Tetris Boss? Yeah, he sucks.
Fly safe, shoot straight, get the vaccine! For the glory of the Empire!
