Blog Bits and Hits

So, important milestone for me, fellow agents.  I've crested 3500 views for my little niche of cyberspace.  To a lot of you fellow bloggers that's probably an impossibly small number but for me it's sort of impressive.  My little writing experiment about an MMO has been more a labor of love than anything.  I write for me, to give myself something to do, to provide an outlet for some joy or frustration, simply to let my guildmates (who don't even read the damn thing) know important stuff that may or may not be happening soon(ish), or just try to be a little funny about this game.  The page I've had the most visits at was the Mass Effect 3 post (380+ hits) and the second?  My Server Types and You! post (which I had a hoot writing) at just under 200 hits.  My posting style is irregular and random, some weeks (like this week) I pump out 4-5 posts, others only 1 a week (if I'm lucky).  I lead my posts with little RP bits from my agent's point of view and I try to be humorous or comical.  Sometimes it works, other times ... yeah, not so much.  I've written 71 entries (this will be 72!) and I usually get about 15 hits per post; some are more popular than others.  Hell, some only get 2 or 3 hits, period.

Sometimes I wonder what it'd be like to see hundreds and hundreds of hits on this blog; all those eyes peeled for what I have to say.  Then I see something like this.  And that's when I realize that I like stuff small.  I like a small group of you guys who come to see my inane ramblings, a select clique of folks who all comment on each others' stuff and generally make snarky comments, post silly screencaps, and generally share the love we have for this new-fangled Star Wars game.

Tobold's post seems to me to be, and remember this only my incredibly stupid interpretation of it, needlessly antagonistic.  I guess I'm just not into that sort of thing.  Kicking the hornet's nest and then watching everyone get stung is just not my idea of fun.  One could argue that Tobold and Klep and Gevlon are much more professional writers than I am (or could ever hope to be) and that they are tackling much larger topics that have far-reaching effects.  I write about silly stuff like server stereotypes and how agents are the best class evar (which they totally are, trustori) and that will probably never launch me into the SWTOR blogosphere elite, but I'm ok with that.  I can be an also-ran who just puts out silly stuff occasionally.  I think I'd prefer it.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is this: for those of you who read my crap on a consistent basis ... thank you.  Thanks for giving me the thrill of seeing 30 views on a particular post, or seeing a new comment, or getting added to a blogroll.  For you guys it may just be old hat, business as usual, 30 hits is nothin'.  For me it's important because good LORD someone actually reads this shit?

Maybe I should apologize instead of thank ya'll!

Snap Shot: Things I Don't Miss (That I Thought I Would)

I raided on two separate enhancement shaman. Yeah.
Time is money, friend!
One of my 6 shaman.
BEER AND AXES!
So, it's been almost 10 months since I saw these two guys.  Strange thing, really.  For as much love and heart as I poured into them, I don't really miss them at all.  Maybe I had already mentally said goodbye to them before I ever quit, maybe I just don't love the game anymore.  Either way, these two were my pride and joy for the better part of three years (after retiring my first, Neverender) and yet, in an odd way, I don't even remotely want to play them anymore.  I guess, for me, these two old, tired warriors have finally earned a restive spot on some beach where they can talk shop about axes and maces and ghost wolves.  After yesterday's poll, I really thought I'd feel the tug to play this game again.

I don't.  And frankly that just means I made the right decision.  Happy trails Brewtotem and Ancestor.  You were definitely fun while you lasted ... but your time is done.  Kick back, have a Darkmoon Ale on me, and enjoy your retirement.  Maybe you can make an appearance, reincarnated of course, in SWTOR one day ...

TOR Blogger Feedback

With Lyrestra calling it quits recently over at The Sith Code, I'd like to take the temperature of the SWTOR blogging community concerning our newest game.  If TOR were a ceramic bathtub filled with bubbles I can feel the water is hot in some spots, warm in others, tepid for some, and completely cold for the remainder.  What's your TOR tub like?  Still in love with the game?  Still logging on every day?  Or have you cooled somewhat (or even completely divorced) BioWare's newest baby?  Take my quiz in the comments and we'll tabulate the results!

All answers will be from 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest score and 10 being the highest score.

Questions:
**Updated for answers so far!**

  1. Give a score representative of the overall level of fun you've had while playing TOR (1 to 10). ~ Average score 8.14
  2. Give a score representative of your current happiness with the game (including patch 1.2). ~ Average score 7.86
  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how active are you in TOR?  Example: 1 means you barely log in at all, 10 means you log in every day for multiple hours.  A 5 would mean 2-3 days per week for no more than 5 hours total per week. ~ Average score 7.86
  4. On a scale of 1 to 10, what is your level of commitment to TOR?  1 means you are very likely to unsubscribe, 10 means you are a lifer and will marry the box next weekend. ~ Average score 7.71
  5. What was your previous MMO (if applicable) and what score would you give that game overall, from 1 to 10? ~ Average score 6.00 - most popular answer, WoW

Snap Shot: Sniper Rotations

Just a quick note, agents.  I've already posted an assignment today but this is less about tomfoolery and more about mechanics.  If you're a sniper (and I assume you are because we are to classes what sunshine is to plants) you'll want to vary your rotation while operating.

Lately, I've taken to leading with Series of Shots instead of Ambush or Snipe; simple reason, really.  Series of Shots has a high probability of triggering a critical, thusly making your Ambush a short cast.  For me, it drops Ambush to a 1.4 cast, 1.3 if Sniper Volley is up.  The real icing on the cake is this: it allows you to Ambush, Followthrough, and Snipe without losing the instant Snipe for popping into cover.

Here's my set up:

1. SOS
2. Ambush
3. Followthrough
4. Snipe
5. Orbital Strike
6. Explosive Probe
7. Crit Relic
8. SOS
9. Rapid Fire
10. SOS
11. SOS

Also remember to work in your Toxic Dart for the DoT as well as Shatter Shot on bosses to lower armor a smidge.

*EDIT*

Mana from heaven!  Patch 1.2.1 notes just went up and we're getting damage buffs!  Snipe, Followthrough, Ambush, Series of Shots, and Takedown are all getting buffed by 5%.  BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Your Forty-third Assignment: CPR

Tatooine looks rather barren, sir.

It did, Ensign Temple.  Not anymore.

Sir, why are we here?

The Empire is in need.  Get ready to roll.

Lock and load, agents!  Today we're revisiting an old topic ... the dead world.  Did patch 1.2 change that?  You'll find out after the break.  (SPOILER: OMG IT TOTALLY DID)

Snap Shot: Travel Alert!

This is Sarbo Oxley with a travel alert!  Imperial authorities have shut off all traffic to Tatooine, citing a health hazard.  The Imperial Transit Bureau has declined to comment further.  Stay tuned to Nova News for more on this breaking development.

And now to Thruster Torq with the latest Huttball standings ...

Lock and load, agents!  Just a quick hit ... I've been ultra busy playing the new 1.2 content and having a blast.  Councillor, Targeter's twin Chiss brother, has been seeing a lot of action lately.  Apparently though, he's seen too much action ...

Ruh roh.  Councillor looks green.  In fact ... he doesn't look well at all.

WHAT THE FUCK?!  This happened shortly before I exploded and died.  Yeah, so that rakghoul plague is serious business, guys.  Sounds like it needs some Targeter action!

I fear no disease.

Your Forty-second Assignment: Patchenstein

Look at the size of that thing.

You like 'em big, eh Kaliyo?

Shut up, cipher.  Seriously, look how big that thing is.  It'll take forever to unravel.

Not to worry.  Turns out my family will be able to help out ...

*** UPDATE: Patch 1.2 CONFIRMED for Thursday, April 12th! ***

Lock and load, agents!  You ever get stuff tha goes on in your life that prevents you from doing what you like to do?  The past two weeks have been a meat-grinder at work; that explains the paucity of my posting.  I hope to get that fixed this week.  Now, on to the important stuff!

Soon, very soon, we will be assaulted mentally, physically, emotionally, and sexually by PATCHENSTEIN 1.2: THE PATCHENING, also known as Patch 1.2.  Today we'll go through some of the major changes coming in 1.2 and what you can reasonably expect to see ... well, see sometime in April.  If they don't push it back.  Cuz this damn patch is huge, ya'll.  Like, really huge.  PATCHENSTEIN 1.2: THE PATCHENING huge!  So huge, it'll be split into two films, PATCHENSTEIN: THE PATCHENING and PATCHENSTEIN 2: ELECTRIC PATCHENSTEIN BOOGALOO!

Ok, but seriously this thing is massive.  So massive, in fact, that I worry about the first day stability of the game.  Here are the patch notes from the community site; I'll summarize the interesting points below.

Interesting Point the First - Legacy

The part of 1.2 that seems to be getting the most buzz is the Legacy system.  This system will provide you a way to give your characters perks based on your legacy level.  Legacy level is that little purple bar under your xp bar the behaves a lot like your xp bar but is in fact not a regular xp bar but a legacy xp bar, making it much more legaciar.  Before, it did nothing except broadcast to you how much of a life a you don't have.  Now, it'll give you bonuses and perks for being a no-life loser!

But seriously, let's hit the big points of the Legacy thingie.  Firstly, if you have reached level 50 on one character, that character's race will be unlocked for all character classes.  If you have reached it with a human (who is available to all classes already), you'll get a Presence buff apparently.  As you are obviously already a Chiss Agent, this means that the Chiss will be unlocked for all classes (helloooo Chissquisitor!).  If you're not a Chiss Agent ... seriously, what the fuck's wrong with you?

Secondly, the legacy system will give you access to cool stuff like mail boxes and training dummies on your ship, a rocket boost, class abilities that you can share among all your characters, special emotes, and most importantly, a restraining bolt for your ship droid.

That's right, a restraining bolt.  To shut that fucking droid up.  Hallelujah.

Interesting Point the Second - Ops, Flashpoints, and PVP, Oh My!

Patch 1.2 gives us a nice little taste of a new operation, Explosive Conflict, a new PVP warzane, Novare Coast, and a new flashpoint, something about rakghouls.  Ok, sorry, I just can't possibly give a fuck about rakghouls, ok?  I hated them in KOTOR, I hated them in TOR on Taris, and I hate them now.  It's goddamn rakghouls, that's it.  They run stupid and I hate the noises they make, so screw them.  The operation, Explosive Conflict, is much more exciting.  Apparently some Trandoshans are getting frisky in light of all the recent open warfare, and a Trando leader (forgot his name, but he probably has a lot of repeating ssss in it) found an artifact that gives him power.  Probably like the Dragon Scroll in Kung Fu Panda (which I heard Blizzard is basing an entire expansion on ... just a joke, sheesh!).  The new op sounds fun and interesting and it's probably much less of a buggy hell-pit than Eternity Vault.  I hope.  Oh, and there's a new warzone on the planet Denova or something with some objectives I won't understand.  I suck at PVP.

Interesting Point the Third - Talent Resets!

Most of the advanced classes are changing so radically that players are being refunded their talent points.  This is very exciting news as it means I can finally ditch that horrible Ambush pushback talent and get something else instead.  They're also changing Sniper Volley so that it triggers more as well as reworking some other stuff, specifically Entrench (now protects up to 60% of AOE damage) to give Snipers less mobility-based problems.  That's nice of them.  Once I get a feel for the new abilities, I'll be updating my skill priority list for operations as well as previewing some new gear.  Oh, and the gear looks horrid.  No, seriously.  Agents got screwed.  We went from castoff Mortal Kombat characters to weird kleenex-faced goons.  It's not an improvement.

Interesting Point the Fourth - Something New!

Shit fuck almighty, it's just nice to have something new to do.  Look, Bioware's trying hard and I really appreciate it.  I really do.  But we've been sitting on the same old content for a while and honestly, it's just so nice to have some new shinies to look at.  Legacy.  Talents.  Ops.  FPs.  PVP.  Stuffffff.  Just new stuff.  Yay!

A word of warning; the patch is about a gig so give yourself some time to get it downloaded.  I'll see y'all on Thursday!  Fly safe, shoot straight!  For the glory of the Empire!

Snap Shot: Gold Leader Checkin' In

Just a quick one today, agents.  Work has been keeping me busy all this week, so I'll be sure to post early and often next week.  I'll be examining patch 1.2 and its changes, as well as exploring why the Chiss are so damn important.

So, just a quick note ... how many of you are guild leaders?  And of those who are, has your guild christened you with a nickname?  My folks have taken to calling me 'Gold Leader' and I'm starting to really like it.  It's pretty cool to have a nickname that's not "Dickface", "Assmunch", or "Shit-for-brains."

Oh well.  Gold Leader, signing off!

Snap Shot: Finally

After playing exterminator for three weekends (ie, fighting bugs) my guild finally managed to drag down Soa.  Thank god.

And it only took a couple of attempts!  We were getting frustrated because of the bugs but we fought through it.  Now it's on to Karraga's Palace and a whole new set of bugs.

Yay?
